Data Shows: Women in the USA Should Avoid Living in These 14 States

The United States might be the richest country in the world, but that doesn’t mean it is the greatest. Recent data from the National Organization for Women revealed the worst states in the USA to live if you are a woman. Due to the high cost of living, low wages, and weak women’s rights, these areas should be avoided altogether. Check out this data, and you’ll understand why it’s wise to steer clear of living in these awful states.

Alabama is now considered one of the worst USA states for women to live in, scoring 17 out of 90 points. Here, women still have significant abortion restrictions and face other struggles, such as high maternal mortality rates, and low life expectancy, just to mention a few.

Mississippi

Together with Alabama, Mississippi is now the worst state in the USA for women’s quality of life. This place shares the same problems as Alabama, making it incredibly difficult for pregnant women to have an abortion. On top of this, Mississippi never expanded Medicaid, a program that helped people with limited income cover certain medical costs.

South Carolina

Similarly to Alabama and Mississippi, South Carolina did not expand Medicaid, meaning that its most vulnerable citizens do not have access to affordable healthcare. This state also has a six-week abortion ban and high homicide rates.

Kentucky

With a score of 22.5/90, this USA state has high maternal mortality rates, a preemption for family leave, and an abortion ban without any exceptions.

Tennessee

Here is one of the other ten USA states that did not expand Medicaid. On top of this, Tennessee has a strict abortion ban and a wage gap three cents below the national average.

Louisiana

With a score of 24/90, Louisiana remains one of the worst US states in terms of women’s rights. This area has higher rates of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) compared to the national average and has an abortion ban with no exceptions. But this is not all. This state also ranked fifth in the When Men Murder Women official ranking.

Arkansas

Arkansas has a high maternal mortality rate and a low life expectancy, making this state one of the worst for women to live in. Murder rates are also incredibly high, and women here do not have access to abortion.

Texas

Houston, we have a problem. Here is another state with a strict abortion ban. Texas is also at the bottom of the list when it comes to the rights of working women, and its healthcare system is often ranked among the worst in the country.

Oklahoma

Oklahoma was ranked second in the When Men Murder Women ranking, right after Alaska. The state’s abortion ban and low life expectancy also make it hard for women to live here, even though, on the more positive side, the quality of life for working women is relatively high compared to other places in the USA.

Georgia

Georgia is considered one of the worst states for working women and has one of the worst healthcare systems in the USA. The wage gap is also half a cent worse than the national average.

West Virginia

With a ranking of 32/90, West Virginia still has lots to do to achieve gender equality. A huge wage gap and a low life expectancy for women are just some of the many problems that female citizens have to face here. Abortion is also banned except for cases of rape or incest.

Indiana

Indiana makes the list due to its near-total ban on abortion and high rates of domestic violence.

Wisconsin

Abortion is widely unavailable in Wisconsin simply due to legal uncertainty. This makes it very hard for a woman with pregnancy complications or the inability to parent to get the abortion they need. While there are hopes that the abortion laws will change, it could take years. The state also has a high homicide rate and has yet to expand Medicaid, making it a tough place to live for almost everyone.
